ASUS has been a one of the top PC vendor of 2014 as per the unit sales. The company has slowly started acquiring the market and giving tough competitions to in the field. The Taiwan company has been doing a good job with is affordable X-series range of laptop.
ASUS X555L (XX132H) laptop has been one of the best in range laptop to go with. Can this be a worthy PC for daily use? Specifications The ASUS X555L (XX132H) comes with big 15.6-inch display with LED Back-lit and 1366 x 768 resolution. It runs on a 5 th gen Intel Core i5 processor 2.2 GHz with Burst Frequency upto 2.7 GHz with 8GB of RAM clocked at 1,600MHz and a 1TB HDD. This is a good gaming laptop with 2GB Nvidia GeForce 920M. In terms of the ports, there are 3 USB ports (two of which are the 3.0 variant,) HDMI and VGA display outputs, Gigabit Ethernet, a headphone socket and a microSD card reader. It also includes an integrated DVD Writer.
There is a full-sized keyboard and a separate numeric keypad. It sports built-in Sonic Master speakers under the fold of the display lid of the notebook. The laptop comes pre-installed with 64-bit Windows 8.1 (which qualifies for the free upgrade to Windows 10).
Design At a first glance, the laptop looks huge due to 15.6-inch display. Though made up of plastic, the top lid flaunts a glossy look and it attracts a scratch and fingerprint. The uplift keyboard buttons make it easier for typing. There isn’t a separate keys for mouse click that adds a little bit of a headache as well. The bigger sized laptop allows an enough space for generous palm rest that makes for comfortable typing. Having a separate numeric keys eliminates the usage of shift key always.
The speakers are placed under the keyboard and thus reducing the volume by a bit when placed on the flat surface. Also, the exhaust fan placement heats up the laptop on a long use. At 2.3kgs, it does make it heavier to lift frequently.
Performance With 8GB of RAM, the laptop performs really well. It has a faster boot time, faster app opening time and what not. With Nvidia graphics under the hood, this laptop is a gamer friendly. It didn’t show any lag while we played NFS, EA Cricket and FIFA 2015 (sorry I’m not a heavy gamer for a better check). Battery Upon on a heavy usage, including browsing, word processing, skyping and little bit of audio play, the battery lasted for decent 3 hours. Upon heavy gaming (NFS, EA Cricket and FIFA 2015) it lasted for mare 3 hours 30mins.
I watched three movies on a flow each with 2hours and 45mins length. Regular usage backup was around 7 hours. Benchmark Results The device packed a decent 5323 rating in 3DMark in the Gate test and 3751 in the PCMark 8 Work benchmark. Our Verdict The ASUS X555L (XX132H) is a decent laptop for the gamers, student and any other category of the users. With the huge 15.6-inch display and upper-middle class hardware, it can surely be your desktop replacement.
It would have been perfect if ASUS had placed a better resolution screen for the size it comes with.
